REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA — Purely Canada Foods plans to increase railcar capacity to over 250 rail hopper cars at its Port Lajord inland facility.

The Purely Canada expansion of the rail by 13,500 feet will give the company a total of more than 21,000 feet of rail track capacity and facilitate simultaneous loading and unloading of over 250 rail hopper cars at the Port Lajord location.

The extra rail track will provide the capability to offload and onload hopper railcars at a more efficient rate, allowing increased whole foods and ingredients to be shipped through the terminal, Purely Canada said. This includes grains, organic grains, oilseeds, pulses and beans; whole food protein and ingredients; potash; fertilizer and other agricultural commodities and ingredients.

Purely Canada is a vertically integrated company supplying whole foods and ingredients and is a wholesale plant-based ingredient provider. It also is Canada’s largest certified organic facility, the country’s fifth largest inland grain terminal, railway infrastructure private railcar fleet, and strategic farm acres.

In late October, Purely Canada is expected to merge with Above Food Inc., a plant protein food business that develops and distributes plant-based alternatives to meat (Above Meat) and dairy (Above Dairy) through their proprietary Whole-Plant Protein Formulations.
