DAMASCUS, SYRIA — Constrained wheat supplies are hampering Syria’s bread production. Domestic wheat purchases are only enough to produce bread for the next one and a half months, Reuters reported, citing Hussein Arnous, prime minister of Syria.

In a meeting with union Arnous said 690,000 tonnes of what had been purchased this year and 300,000 tonnes of the total was from northeast Syria.

“Bread is a red line that would not be touched,” except to a minimal extent, Arnous said.
