MINSK, BELARUS — Aided by improved weather conditions, Belarus is forecast to increase total grain production in 2020 over the previous year, the agriculture ministry said on Aug. 13.

With 76% of the harvest complete, average yield was 3.79 tonnes per hectare compared with 3.19 tonnes a year earlier, the ministry said in a report.

The country had harvested 5.6 million tonnes of grain from 82.6% of the sown area by the same date in 2019.

Government officials have said the country is likely to increase its grain harvest to at least 8.2 million tonnes this year from 7.33 million tonnes in 2019.
