HAMBURG, GERMANY — Germany’s wheat crop will be down slightly in 2020 while its rapeseed production is expected to increase, Reuters reported.

The wheat crop will be down 1.4% to 22.73 million tonnes. Winter rapeseed production is expected to increase 18.4%, to 3.34 million tonnes, from an especially poor crop last summer.

Germany is the second largest wheat producer in the EU following France. In most years, it is the region’s largest producer of rapeseed.

Crops in part of the country need rain, Reuters said. Sowing of spring grains is separate from corn (maize).

The corn crop is expected to increase 11.8% to 4.09 million tonnes because of an increase in planted area and yield improvements, Reuters reported.
