BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — In its most recent projection, Coceral projects the E.U.’s 2019 grain crop at 307 million tonnes, up slightly from its September estimate of 304.9 million tonnes and far above last year’s total of 281.3 million tonnes.

Wheat production is projected at 145 million tonnes, up from the 143.3 million tonnes in September and well above the 126.9 million tonnes in 2018.

Crop estimates for Spain, Hungary and the Baltic countries have seen the most significant upward revisions, with actual wheat yields being better than previously estimated.

The E.U.’s barley production forecast for 2019 stands at 62.1 million tonnes, up from 60.8 million tonnes in the September forecast and from 56 million tonnes last year.

The E.U.’s corn crop forecast has been revised down marginally from 61.6 million tonnes to 61.5 million tonnes in September. Last year, E.U. farmers harvested 61.3 million tonnes of corn.

Coceral’s rapeseed production forecast for the E.U. has been reduced from 17.3 million tonnes to 17.1 million tonnes due to further reductions in the French, German, Lithuanian and U.K. crops. In 2018, the E.U.’s rapeseed crop stood at 20.1 million tonnes.

Coceral is the European association representing the trade in cereals, rice, feedstuffs, oilseeds, olive oil, oils and fats and agrosupply.
