REIMS, FRANCE — The milling and cereal industries will meet at the 62nd JTIC International Milling and Cereal Industries Oct. 13-14 in Reims, France.

The meeting is the annual appointment for all the professionals of the wheat-flour-bread sector. More than 100 suppliers will showcase their last innovations on their booths and during the sessions of workshops including producers of organic flours, ingredients, yeasts, improvers; manufacturers of equipment for the production, the control, the cleaning, the packaging and handling; insurers; laboratories; research centers and training schools.

The four main topics of conferences of this 62nd edition will cover majors concerns of the whole wheat-flour-bread sector:

• Cereal and nutritional expectations. Which products for which markets? Does the bread eater care about nutrition? Do the consumers valorize the nutritional information of cereal products? Fibers selected for their nutritional properties. Tailored biscuits, low carb and low fat, enriched in fibers and/or protein. New cereal products with improved nutritional profile: a source of sustainable growth for the sector or a fashion effect?
  
• Management and consequence of the prices volatility in the second processing industries. Did the price volatility of wheat modify the backers’ behaviors when purchasing flour? What are the effects on the second processing industries? Will 2007 and 2011 be exceptional years or simply the reflect of the future?
  
• French wheat quality with focus on organic varieties. Perspectives of the national wheat market with regards to the international situation. Quality of the French wheat from 2011 harvest. The technological value of the new varieties which present an interest for the miller and their added value to current varieties. The French soft and hard organic wheat sector, from the production to the best quality/uses potential.
  
• The new challenges of food policies regarding cereals. Why food is a political and a strategic subject? What are the politicians’ liabilities towards the citizen when implementing the laws and the food budgets? Do the food policies include agricultural aspects? Are agricultural and food policies compatible or contradictory? What are the limits of the food policies? What are the arbitrations between the collective interest and the consumers’ personal freedom?

A poster area will have the last scientific and technological experiments led by the researchers, the industrials and the students of the sector.
