The national average retail price of white pan bread was 147.2¢, up 5.2¢ per lb from April and up 11.3¢ from May 2010. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread rose in all three regions: up 19¢ in the West, up 3.7¢ in the South and up 0.4¢ in the Midwest.
At 191.1¢ per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 1.8¢ per lb from April but up 12.5¢ per lb from May 2010.
The national average price of family flour in May was 52.1¢ per lb, up 2.1¢ from April and up 3.6¢ from May 2010.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in May was 123.1¢ per lb, up 5.8¢ from April and up 13.9¢ from May 2010. Chocolate chip cookies were 321.9¢ per lb, down 6.9¢ from April and down 5.2¢ from May 2010.
