LEAWOOD, KANSAS, U.S. — Carter Wands has joined Manildra Group USA as technical services manager in the retail division of the Lo-Fo Pantry Division. In his new role Wands will serve as a technical resource to support Manildra’s low FODMAP flours, mixes and retail ready products that recently were introduced in the United States.
Wands previously was product development technologist for Manildra Group in Gladesville, New South Wales, Australia, where he created and developed novel low FODMAP flours and mixes for the Australian retail and commercial bakery trades.
“Carter provides a valuable resource as we continue to grow the Lo-Fo Pantry brand and help consumers to better understand the low FODMAP diet,” said Neal Bassi, president of Manildra Group USA. “Carter’s background in milling and baking science, along with his thorough knowledge of low FODMAP products, will be vital in supporting this new launch.”
FODMAP stands for fermentable oligo-di-mono saccharides and polyols. The FODMAP elimination diet entails at least temporary avoidance of wheat-based foods. According to Manildra, the company’s low FODMAP flours allow consumers with symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to enjoy bread and other wheat-based products without the concern for FODMAPS.
“We have learned, through science, that many consumers who have been avoiding gluten may not have a gluten problem, but actually a FODMAP problem,” Bassi said.
