WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK, U.S. — J. Erik Fyrwald, chief executive officer of Syngenta, has been elected to the board of directors of Bunge Ltd., effective immediately.

Fyrwald has been CEO of Syngenta since 2016. Earlier, he was president and CEO of Univar, a distributor of chemicals and related services. He also previously was president of Ecolab, a provider of cleaning, sanitation, water treatment and oil and gas products and services, and chairman, president and CEO of Nalco, a water treatment and oil and gas products and services company. In the mid-2000s he was group vice-president of the Agriculture and Nutrition division of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co.

He received a bachelor’s of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
