MYKOLAIV, UKRAINE — Gilles Mettetal one June 1 joined the Supervisory Board of Nibulon, one of Ukraine’s largest grain exporters.

Mettetal has  experience in agriculture and food, as well as extensive knowledge of specifics of the agrarian sector in different regions of the world. He has 30 years of international experience in financing agriculture, agribusiness and real estate corporate sectors. Mettetal's previous work experience includes the Investment Centre of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), where he oversaw the identification and preparation of projects to be financed by major international financial institutions, such as the World Bank or the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Asia, Africa and South America.

Until June 2017, Mettetal was the director ofAgribusiness and of the Property & Tourism Departments at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). According to Nibulon, under his leadership the agricultural sector became the second largest sector financed by the EBRD in Ukraine, and a long-term and reliable partnership between the EBRD and Nibulon was started. Specialists of Nibulon and the EBRD have been working together to ensure that investment projects are implemented as efficiently as possible and the allocated funds are used for the benefit of Ukraine’s economy.

As Nibulon’s General Director Oleksiy Vadaturskyy said, it was with the direct participation of Mettetal that a breakthrough in financing of the agricultural sector was made in Ukraine.

“During the period of the agricultural sector formation and complicated economic situation after Ukraine became independent, it was extremely important that such well-known international financial institutions as the EBRD began to cooperate with Ukraine,” Vadaturskyy said. “The authority of Mettetal and the EBRD enabled us to change the image of Ukrainian agricultural sector. And today we realize that the agricultural sector of Ukraine would have been completely different without cooperation with the EBRD. Today it is a sufficiently developed environment, which is practically one of the few in the world to work effectively and without any subsidies and support from the state, and it is competitive in the global market.

“Therefore, the experience of Mettetal, his culture and knowledge, high level of professionalism and authority in the world, psychological, moral and ethical qualities are of great importance to our company. This is a great help and invaluable contribution to the development of our company.”

Currently, Nibulon’s supervisory board consists of four members: Claudio Scarrozza, Oleksiy Vadaturskyy, Philippe Ziegler, and Gilles Mettetal.
