PARKSIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA — Viterra has contracted a local South Australian safety and workwear supplier, Torrens Safety, to provide personal protection equipment (PPE) and clothing to its workforce.

The contract is worth more than A$700,000 annually in a boost to the local economy.

Tim Krause, general manager at Viterra, said with 800 ongoing employees and up to 2,000 casual harvest employees needing PPE and workwear, the contract was an important one for Viterra.

“We went through a tender process and it is pleasing to have engaged a local South Australian company,” Krause said. “We highly value our relationships with our suppliers as the service they provide is critical to the success of our business.”

Viterra said one of the most important parts of the contract is supplying PPE and clothing to its harvest casual workforce.

“Being able to provide these kits in a short timeframe is important to ensure harvest operations run smoothly,” Krause said.

Shane Limbert, Torrens safety director, said his team was pleased to be awarded the contract.

“Torrens Safety is a proud family-owned and operated business and new partnerships such as this one allow us to reinvest in our business and South Australia,” Limbert said. “We are looking forward to working closely with Viterra into the future.”

The contract between Viterra and Torrens Safety is for an initial period of 12 months with the option to extend it for three years after that.

Viterra has contracts with more than 1500 suppliers, the vast majority of which are South Australian-based.
