ThinkPink Protein Bars, distributed by ThinkProducts, Ventura, California, USA, target women by donating a portion of sales to Women’s Cancer Research. Available in flavors including White Chocolate Raspberry, Peanut Butter Caramel and Lemon Burst, the bars contain 20 g of protein and are sugar and gluten free. The individual bars cost US$1.34 (€0.91).

• To satisfy a craving for crunchy and savory, Cheecha Krackles Puffed Potato Snacks from CanCad Marketing & Sales, Alberta, Canada, come in a Sea Salt and Spiced Pepper flavor. Free of gluten, cholesterol, trans fat, dairy and nuts, the hot air-puffed snacks contain less than 3 g of fat per 2-cup serving. A bag costs 2.99 Canadian dollars (US$2.99, €2.02).

• To satisfy consumer cravings for special-occasion cakes that are quick and easy to prepare, Chudleigh’s, Ontario, Canada, features its Molten Chocolate Lava Cake. The cakes contain a molten chocolate ganache center surrounded by rich chocolate cake. Each 30.4-oz pack contains eight individually wrapped cakes, which retail for CAN$10.45 (US$9.88, €7.31).

Nikki’s Cookies, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, is offering its Singapore customers Key Lime Shortbread Cookies with Almonds, made with pure creamery butter and tropical key lime to create the distinctively refreshing flavor. This kosher-certified product is all natural and free of preservatives. They are available in a 185-g (6.5-oz) pack. Also available in this range are Meyer Lemon and Cinnamon Butterfly varieties. The cookies sell for S$6.85 (US$4.47, €3.31).

Interstate Bakeries Corp., Kansas City, Missouri, USA, has launched a line of cupcakes under the Hostess 100 Calorie Packs brand. These packs offer the calorie-conscious consumer portion-controlled, snack-sized packages each containing three mini cupcakes that feature the brand’s signature creamy filling. The products are free from trans fats and are available nationwide in three varieties: Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing and Creamy Filling, Golden Cake with Chocolate Icing and Creamy Filling, and Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing and Creamy Filling. The box of six packages retails for US$2.50 (€1.85).

• Premium assortments of cookies are becoming increasingly popular, using enticing ingredients, handcrafting methods and presented in high-quality boxes. Dorsey Marketing, Quebec, Canada, released Napa Creations European Biscuits, an assortment of 10 varieties of deluxe European biscuits. It includes biscuits such as Coco Fleur with dark chocolate and grated coconut; Nocciola with a nut filling and milk chocolate with a touch of dark chocolate; and Donna, a cookie dipped in dark chocolate with milk chocolate drizzled on top. The cookies retail for CAN$11.70 (US$11.06, €8.19).

Terra Red Bliss Potato Chips are the latest new product offering in Canada from Hain Celestial Group, Melville, NY, USA. The snack is made from specially selected red potatoes from the Pacific Northwest. The kosher chips are made with olive oil and are available in Herb, Roasted Garlic and Parmesan and Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Balsamic Vinegar flavors. The 141-g product has an estimated retail value of CAN$3.49 (€2.45, US$3.09).

QTG Canada, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, is joining the ranks of companies producing allergen-free foods. Quaker Chewy Granola Bars have an on-pack claim that they were made in a peanut-free facility. The product is also trans-fat-free and cholesterol-free. The snack retails locally for CAN$2.59 (€1.61, US$2.30).

Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, OH, USA, with operations at Rotterdam, The Netherlands, launched a new Pringles line in The Netherlands. Thai Sweet Chili Flavor Crisps is the latest taste offering from the company. Packaged in the brand’s signature canister, this product is marketed assuitable for vegetarians and vegans. The crisps retail for € 1.52 (US$1.84).

Nature’s Path Foods, Richmond, BC, Canada, introduced a new and healthy waffle reformulation. Lifestream Buckwheat Waffles are gluten-free and available in the freezer section. The waffles provide essential amounts of fiber and protein, and their reformulation includes more organic ingredients. Eight waffles come in a standard package. The company also introduced a new flavor, Flax Plus, which joins four existing organic varieties: Hemp Plus, 8 Grain Synergy, Mesa Sunrise and Soy Plus. The waffles retail for US$3.29 to US$4.40 ( € 2.72 to € 3.64).

· Many companies are exploring healthier options for standard white bread. Dempster’s Smart Whole Grain White bread from Canada Bread, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is free from cholesterol and trans fat. It also is low in saturated fat and a good source of 11 essential nutrients. Supported by the National Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ottawa, Ontario, the 510-g packaged product retails for C$1.99 (€1.42, US$1.75).

Kellogg Company, Mississauga, ON, Canada, released a new waffle variety, Eggo Doubles. The waffles are flavored with brown sugar on one side and cinnamon on the other side. A chocolate and vanilla variety is also available. They are certified kosher and are a source of six essential vitamins, and they come in a package containing eight waffles. This product was released in the US in February under the name of Flip Flops. Eggo Doubles retail for C$2.99 (€2.10, US$2.69).
