World Grain News: Bankok to host international feed, grain industry conference in November

BANGKOK, THAILAND The Millennium Conference, set for Nov. 3-4 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, is being called the “definitive international feed and grain industry meeting of the year.” The event combines exhibitions and conferences of Victam Asia '99, Feed Ingredients Asia '99 and Grain Processing Asia '99. The trade show and technical conference is designed for industry professionals operating in Southeast Asia.
Speakers at the technical conference will address “real world issues and provide practical solutions for the grain and feed processors as they enter the next millennium,” conference organizers said.
Patrick Catania, senior vice-president, Chicago Board of Trade, Chicago, Illinois, U.S., will give the keynote address on Nov. 3. His speech, “After the Crisis: Trading in a New Environment,” will focus on the effect on supply, availability and price of raw materials following the Asian economic disaster and Europe's adoption of the new currency, the euro.
Other speakers on Nov. 3 will discuss grain processing issues, including a discussion of post-harvest solutions such as infestation prevention in storage systems and quality control through microscopy. Martin Schlauri, Buhler Ltd., Uzwil, Switzerland, also will give a presentation on “The Flour Mill of the 3rd Millennium.” Speakers on Nov. 4 will discuss new Victam technologies and feed ingredients issues. In addition, Dr. Albert Tacon, technical director, Aquatic Feed and Nutrition Program, U.S. Oceanic Institute, will review the world aquaculture feed industry, with a special report on China.
