U.S. wheat flour production rise

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — U.S. wheat flour production in July-September totaled 104,091,000 cwts (4,721,490 tonnes in terms of flour), up 2% from 102,077,000 (4,630,136 tonnes) in the third quarter of 2001, according to data compiled by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of the Census.
Flour production in the latest quarter also rose 6.8% from the 97,490,000 cwts (4,422,073 tonnes) in the April-June 2002 quarter.
U.S. 24-hour capacity in the third quarter of 2002 equaled 1,488,000 cwts (67,495 tonnes), down slightly from 1,490,000 (67,585 tonnes) in the second quarter and down moderately from 1,543,000 (69,989) in July-September 2001.
U.S. mills in the third quarter operated at 90.8% of six-day grind, up from 85% in the second and 87% in July-September 2001.
U.S. flour output in the first three quarters of 2002, from January through September, was 298,282,000 cwts (13,529,848 tonnes), down 0.1% from 298,715,000 (13,549,488) in the same period of the prior year.
