U.S. hard white wheat hits exports

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — In the first major shipment of America’s newest class of wheat, 30,000 tonnes of U.S. hard white wheat recently shipped out of Cargill’s Houston facility to Egypt.
Hard white wheat production is up to about 1 million tonnes this year. Exportable supplies are expected to expand, with a 35% increase in planted area forecasted for 2004 and another 28% increase in 2005. Production is expected to approach 2 million tonnes by 2005.
