The U.S. Rice Millers’ Association recently presented the late Robert S. Satake with the first RMA Distinguished Service Award, honoring extraordinary contributors to the U.S. rice milling industry.
The announcement was made on June 29 at the 102nd RMA convention in Florida. RMA Chairman Thomas Ferrara presented the award to Satake’s wife, Toshiko Satake, who accepted the award on her husband’s behalf.
Satake, who passed away on Nov. 13, 2000 in Japan, was chairman and chief executive officer of the Satake Corporation, based in Hiroshima, and a long-standing member of the Rice Millers Association.
In addition to his service to the U.S. rice industry, Satake served as chairman of the Japan Food Machinery Manufacturers Association; honorary vice-chairman of the Chinese Cereals and Oils Association; director of the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation; and chairman of the Higashi-Hiroshima Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The RMA was founded in 1899 and is a charter member of the USA Rice Federation.
