HUDDINGE, SWEDEN — In a move designed to improve its manufacturing, research and development efficiency, Perten Instruments Group will transfer its U.S. production unit to Europe. The company's North American headquarters, housing customer support and service, will remain at its Springfield, Illinois, facility.
Perten is a supplier of quality control equipment for the milling, grain, feed and food industries, including near-infrared and single kernel analyzers, laboratory mills and instruments that characterize gluten and starch quality.
Production at the Springfield facility will move to one of Perten's three Europe plants in Stockholm, Sweden; Hamburg, Germany; or Alpnach, Switzerland, sometime during the first quarter of 2000, a company spokesman said.
Supply of the DA 7000 diode array NIR/VIS analyzer and the SKCS 4100 single kernel analyzer currently manufactured at the Springfield facility will be unaffected by the move, Perten said.
The Springfield facility, which was recently expanded to house a customer training facility and applications laboratory, will become the North American headquarters for customer support, engineering, sales and marketing.
Gavin O'Reilly was named operations manager of the U.S. facility. He replaces Dawn Nelson, who left the company.
Mr. O'Reilly, 39, previously was technical director and partner of Labworld, a distributor of Perten instruments in South Africa.
