WITTENBURG, GERMANY — To coincide with its 75th anniversary celebration in 1998, Muhlenchemie GmbH built a 23,000-square-meter plant in Wittenburg for the production of flour improvers, baking premixes and dough conditioning agents. The cost of the project was estimated at about U.S.$6 million.

Annual capacity at the new facility initially will be about 10,000 tonnes, the company said.

Muhlenchemie was founded in 1923 as Lange & Co. in Frankfurt. In 1990, the company was integrated into the Stern-Wywiol Group. After moving its headquarters to Ahrensburg in 1992, the company widened its range of products by developing enzyme technology.

The company had sales of about U.S.$15 million in 1997 and expected a 20% increase in 1998, with growth in international markets. Muhlenchemie said about 70% of its sales were in exports.
