Beijing seminar explores rice and wheat flour milling technologies, markets.

   New milling technologies, the world grain market situation and the rice and wheat milling industries in China made up the agenda at a seminar held in April in Beijing.

   About 300 millers, media representatives and others from the Chinese grain and milling industries gathered for the four-day session. Satake Corp., Tokyo, was host to the seminar, which featured presentations from a variety of speakers.

   Chinese government officials outlined the status of the country's rice and wheat flour industries, with a panel discussion highlighting each industry. Officials from Mitsui and Marubeni, two Japan-based international grain trading companies, provided perspectives on the world food market, as well as the world market situation for rice and wheat/wheat flour.

   Technical presentations were comprehensive, covering paddy cleaning, drying and storage; rice milling technology; conditioning, blending and color sorting; rice cooking systems and end-products; and key innovations in wheat flour milling, including Satake's PeriTec wheat debranning system. The program also included an exhibition of advanced instrumentation.
