The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Feb. 22 approved the purchase by The Manildra Group of the Weston Bioproducts division of George Weston Foods. Manildra will be required to divest a Weston Bioproducts starch plant at Moorooka in Queensland and Henderson in Western Australia and to submit to a 36-month price monitoring examination by the commission.
The commission said the actions are necessary to maintain competition in the markets for starch and starch sugars. Manildra will retain Weston’s flour mill at Narrandera in New South Wales and the Altona starch plant in Victoria.
