Macedonia, a key grain growing and food processing area in Northern Greece, will be the site of the 5th International Fumigants and Pheromones Conference and Workshop, March 20-22, 2001. The conference is being organized by Insects Limited, Inc., Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S., and AgroSpeCom Ltd., Thessaloniki, Greece.
The program includes two days of presentations at the University of Macedonia and one day of hands-on technology applications in the field.
Organizers expect nearly 200 people from over 20 countries to attend. "If this conference is anything like the previous conferences in Lubeck (1993), Bologna (1995), Chicago (1997) or York (1998), this will truly be an international event," said David Mueller, president of Insects Limited.
"Stored product protection is important to the world's food supply," Mueller said. "Today, more than ever, we need to stay trained on the best practices in protecting our food without harming the environment."
New and innovative fumigation techniques will be presented for insects in grain, foods, wood and tobacco. Discussions also will include methyl bromide alternatives, ECO2FUME fumigation, J-System silo fumigation, gas detection with electronic equipment, new grain monitoring techniques, interpretation and reporting IPM results, pest control techniques and a Profume demonstration.
