A re-designed Pitfall Cone trap from AgriSense-BCS Ltd., Pontypridd, Mid Glamorgan, U.K., is used for long-term pest monitoring in grain storage facilities. Custom-made for monitoring a large variety of beetle and weevil pests, each trap is supplied with a securely attached string and marker for easy location once inserted into the grain. The traps are best used in pairs, with one inserted level with the top of the grain and another pushed down 18 to 24 inches (45-60 cm) to effectively monitor 20 tonnes of product. Wandering pests fall into the trap and a special coating on the lid prevents their escape. Redesigned for strength, durability and continuous re-use, the traps have internal fittings for the attachment of pheromone lures if monitoring for one or two specific pests.
