LONDON, U.K. — At the Grain and Feed Trade Association’s Annual General Meeting in January, David Halligan of U.K.-based Deans Foods Ltd. was elected to serve as president in GAFTA’s 125th anniversary year.
"We have come a long way since the early days when in 1878 four corn merchants called a meeting to form the first association, and provide standard terms of trade for a growing international trade," Halligan said.
Today, more than 80% of trade is conducted on GAFTA terms, and there are more than 880 GAFTA members in 80 countries.
