The new Falling Number 1700 from Perten Instruments, Huddinge, Sweden, simultaneously performs duplicate Falling Number analyses and reports the results on two displays. The system incorporates several new safety features and an updated design. The 1700 model is intended for customers requiring high volumes of economical analyses — primarily for segregation at grain elevators and blending at large mills. A worldwide standard for measuring alpha-amylase activity in wheat, durum, rye grains and flours, the Falling Number system also detects sprout damage and is used to segregate and classify grain. Processors and traders use the test to decide what application is appropriate for a shipment of grain, or to find the right blend of grain or flour to meet a specific Falling Number value.
