The explosion suppression system produced by Industrial Protection Devices delivers a suppression agent, typically sodium bicarbonate, into an enclosed area at the first sign of a fireball, stopping an explosion in its earliest stages. Consisting of a power supply module, a monitor, a detector and one or more agent-releasing cannons, the unit contains three sensors that respond to a change in the process pressure, which could indicate the onset of an explosion. Two of the three sensors must respond before the system is triggered to suppress an explosion. Typically located in the control room, the system monitor interprets signals from the supervised circuits and indicates the system's status. Back-up batteries are included to keep the unit running in case of power failure.
