Explosion, fire at ConAgra mill kills one worker

COLUMBUS, OHIO, U.S. — Six persons were injured, one fatally, in an explosion and fire at the ConAgra Flour Milling Co. mill in Columbus in mid-August. Ten employees were working in the mill when the explosion occurred. According to The Columbus Dispatch, firefighters battled fires in four of the 16 grain storage silos after the explosion. The cause is under investigation by ConAgra and the Columbus Fire Department.
The ConAgra mill has daily flour milling capacity of 6,300 cwts (286 tonnes in terms of flour) and grain storage capacity of 1,250,000 bushels (34,000 tonnes of wheat).
