DUSSELDORF, GERMANY — Degussa AG of Dusseldorf, has rearranged its food and feed activities, disbanding its Health & Nutrition Division effective April 1, 2003.
The company said the move stems from the differing market structures applicable to food and feed activities. The Flavors & Fruit Systems, BioActives, and Texturant Systems will be combined in a new business unit with sales expected near €600 million (U.S.$653.6 million), which is comparable to other Degussa business units.
Degussa said the combined food activity lines would enable it to meet market requirements and serve food industry customers with a broad range of single-source products. The Feed Additives Business Unit, also a core business of Degussa, has become part of the Fine & Industrial Chemicals Division. Degussa is a multinational corpor-ation aligned to specialty chemistry. With sales of €11.8 billion and a workforce of some 48,000, Degussa is Germany’s third-largest chemical company and the world leader in specialty chemicals.
