The International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) announced on March 8 that, after careful consideration, the Middle East & Africa District’s Leadership Council and conference organizers have decided to move the 18th annual IAOM Middle East & Africa District Conference & Expo from Beirut, Lebanon to Muscat, Oman.
The event has been rescheduled for Dec. 8-11, 2007 at the Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in the Sultanate of Oman.
IAOM said regular updates related to the conference and new venue will be posted on its website and disseminated by e-mail. The contact information for the Omani organizers will be sent out as soon as it is available.
"It is with deep regret that we have relocated the conference," IAOM said. "However, with the current uncertainty and security risks, we felt that this was the correct action to take at this time. Once Lebanon has recovered, we will be more than pleased to invite you once again to Beirut for a future IAOM Mideast & Africa annual meeting."
The 2006 IAOM Middle East & Africa Conference & Expo was scheduled to take place Nov. 5-8 in Beiruit, but the event had to be postponed because of hostilities in the region. The event was rescheduled for Oct. 21-24, 2007 in Beirut before organizers determined that moving the 2007 conference to Oman would be the best course of action.
The 2005 conference, held in Marrakech, Morocco, attracted a record turnout of more than 1,000 delegates.
