Conference in Philippines to focus on future of Asian rice trade

CEBU ISLAND, THE PHILIPPINES Key market trends of the rice industry and the future of the Asian rice trade will be analyzed, discussed and debated at the fourth annual Asia International Rice Conference, Oct. 28-29 at Cebu Island. The conference is sponsored by IBC Asia Ltd.
Past IBC conferences were held in Singapore, Bankok and Phuket.
Alistair McLuskie, Cargill International S.A., and Vandara Din, Ascot Commodities, will present an “Asian Rice Outlook.” Other speakers at the conference will include Tom Slayton, Slayton & Associates, “The Outlook for the Rice Trade in the New Millenium”; Paul S. Teng, Monsanto, “Biotechnology and the Rice Industry”; and Ram C. Chaudhary, Participatory Rural Development Foundation, “Can Africa be a Future Rice Supplier of Asia?” Speakers also will give updates on the rice industries in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.
