Associated British Foods, a leader in British flour milling and baking, has sold its U.K. starch business, ABR Foods, to French group Roquette Freres S.A.
"The sale of our U.K. starch interests is another step forward as we continue to focus our activities in markets where we are well-positioned to maximize shareholder value," said Peter Jackson, A.B.F. chief executive officer.
ABR Foods, based in Corby, England, manufactures starch and vital wheat gluten from U.K.-sourced wheat primarily for A.B.F.'s baking companies. ABR was described as a "relatively small player in the European starch business." Starch is a core business of Roquette.
