Technical advancement through A.O.M. emerges as theme for '99 conference
Global flour milling in the 21st century, the birth of a U.K. flour mill and Y2K issues will be among the topics presented at the Association of Operative Millers' 103rd annual technical conference and trade show, May 15-18 at the Fort Worth Convention Center, Fort Worth, Texas, U.S. The theme for the show is “Technical Advancement Through A.O.M. Participation.”
The conference opens May 15, with committee meetings taking place throughout the day. The Latin American technical session, including the annual meeting of the Latin American District, will be from 1:25 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The 1999 A.O.M. Technical Session will begin at 8 a.m. May 16 with a presentation on Allied Mills Ltd.'s newest flour mill, the Coronet mill in Manchester, England (see related story on Page 8). Also included in the morning schedule is the “What's New?” program, featuring information about 12 newly developed and manufactured products and services, and the grand opening and ribbon cutting by Mike Jarrett, A.O.M. president, and other officials.
Craig Hamlin, president and chief executive officer of ADM Milling Co., Overland Park, Kansas, U.S., will deliver the keynote address at the A.O.M. breakfast at 8 a.m. May 17. The main program of technical sessions, beginning at 10:15 a.m., will include such topics as Y2K issues, global flour milling in the next century, emerging pathogens in the food processing industry, major capital mill projects, employee retention, pesticide update, the flour milling industry in Colombia and modern warehousing practices.
Technical sessions will continue at 9 a.m. May 18 with discussions of sifter performance, food allergies, drugs in the workplace, white wheat production and performance, grain dust explosions and an update on the grain science program at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.
The A.O.M. 103rd Annual Banquet will begin at 7 p.m. May 18 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel. Jon Peters, plant superintendent for Cargill, Inc. Flour Milling Division, Lake City, Minnesota, U.S., will be introduced as A.O.M. president for 1999-2000.
The A.O.M. open golf tournament will begin at 7 a.m. May 19 at the Tour 18 Golf Club in Fort Worth.
