Grain elevator course focuses on management training

MANHATTAN, KANSAS, U.S. — The IGP Institute at Kansas State University hosted an IGP-KSU Grain Elevator  Managers course where participants learned the importance of grain operation systems and gained management skills.

 

The course focused on a variety of topics, including personnel management; grain quality characteristics; psychometrics; operation costs; grain handling; inventory management; grain handling equipment and equipment maintenance; aeration principles and hardware; grain shipping and receiving; grain safety; grain drying; hands-on trying equipment; fumigation and grain conditioning.

“It’s really been a fantastic course,” said Ron Peterson, elevator operator at Central Plains Coop in Central Plains, Kansas, U.S. “Hearing about experiences from the other participants here, listening to the instructors, and getting a wealth of experience and expertise delivered are things that I can take back to work and decompress.”

 

Along with presentations from KSU faculty and staff, the training also included a tour of the O.H. Kruse Feed Technology Innovation Center on the KSU campus.

“We’ve had a great course full of participants, mostly from Kansas, but also others from surrounding states,” said Carlos Campabadal, feed manufacturing and grain quality management curriculum manager at the IGP Institute. “This course has been so successful, that there is a high demand for it and we will be offering it again in the spring.”
