NEW DELHI, INDIA — India’s Ministry of Finance on Nov. 8 raised the import duty on wheat, doubling it to 20% from 10%.

Although the government did not provide a reason for the increase, media reports suggested the move was undertaken to limit cheap imports from the Black Sea as well as to accommodate expected large local output.

Earlier this year India reinstated the 10% import duty on wheat after the government had removed the duty on Dec. 7, 2016.
