ST. GALLEN, SWITZERLAND — Twenty-five specialists from 15 different countries received their diplomas and certificates from the Swiss School of Milling St.Gallen (SMS) on Feb. 16, completing their 10-month training to become executive grain milling technologists, the SMS said on May 2.

The SMS is globally one of the most prestigious international training institutions within the field of grain milling technology. It offers training from specialists from across the world.

The curriculum included a broad range of theoretical subjects and a strong practice orientation. After the stay in St. Gallen, the graduates are prepared to use their knowledge in the industry and to use their “openness” to learn new things life and business is confronting them, the SMS said.

In his diploma speech Michael Weber, the principal of the SMS, made the audience aware, that this was a memorable course. After 55 years, it was the last course in the old building at the Tellstreet 2 in St. Gallen.

Urs Dübendorfer, product manager Grain Milling at Bühler AG, Uzwil, stressed in his speech, that, several months ago all students made an important decision to invest in their professional skills.

He then presented the Dr. René Bühler Award, which goes to the best in class of each course. This year the price goes to Yoshikazu Sugihara from Japan (Nippon Flour Mills Co.Ltd).

The SMS was set up 55 years ago by the global Buhler Technology Group, which continues to offer it substantial support. It is state independent, which allows a great freedom in the choice of the school program; changes can be made at any time so that latest developments can be considered immediately. Since its foundation, over 1,000 students have been trained at the Swiss School of Milling to become grain milling technologists.
