Average all wheat price falls 43¢ in July

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in July was $4.74 per bushel, up 57¢ from $4.17 in June but down 43¢ from $5.17 in July 2009, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agriculture Prices report.

The average price paid for winter wheat in July was $4.72 a bushel, up 67¢ from $4.05 in June but down 30¢ from $5.02 in July 2009. The average price paid for durum was $4.89 a bushel, up 14¢ from $4.75 in June but down $2.68 from $7.57 in July 2009. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $4.95 a bushel, up 33¢ from $4.62 in June but down $1.01 from $5.96 in July 2010.

The average price paid for rough rice was $12.90 a cwt, equal to levels in June but down $1.30 from $14.20 per cwt in July 2009.

The July index of prices received for food grains was 162 compared with the 1990-92 based of 100, up 13% from a revised 144 in June but down 8.5% from 177 during the previous year.

The July index for feed grains was 153, up 2.7% a revised 149 last month but down 1.9% from 156 in July 2009. The average price received for corn in July was $3.55 per bushel, up 14¢ from $3.41 in June but down 5¢ from $3.60 in July 2009. Farmers received an average of $5.90 a cwt for grain sorghum in July, up 53¢ from $5.37 in June and up 71¢ from $5.19 in July 2009. The average price paid for oats in July was $2.29 a bushel, up 21¢ from $2.08 in June and up 26¢ from $2.03 in July 2009.

The index of July prices received for oil-bearing crops was 174, up 3.6% from a revised 168 in June but down 9.4% from 192 in July 2009. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $9.79 a bushel, up 34¢ from $9.45 in June but down $1.01 from $10.80 a bushel in July 2009.

The July index for dairy products was 123, up 3.4% from a revised 119 in June and up 41% from 87 in July 2009. The average price paid to farmers for manufacturing grade milk in July was $14.20 a cwt, up 70¢ from $13.50 in June and up $4 from $10.20 in July 2009.

The egg and poultry index was 153, up 2.7% from 149 in June and up 5.5% from 145 in July 2009. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was 71¢ a dozen, up 9¢ from 62¢ in June and equal to levels in July 2009.
