CIBITUNG, INDONESIA — PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, Bogasari Flour Mill Division and Bühler signed an agreement on June 12 for a new flour mill at Bogasari’s Cibitung location in Indonesia.

The new project will include two new Bühler milling lines with a capacity of 750 tonnes per day each.

Bogasari has chosen Bühler as partner for these new flour milling lines as an investment into the future of its milling business, not only by including the latest technology and food safety standards, but also by being ready for the Industry 4.0 age.

The project will include bringing all milling lines, including the existing ones, on the latest control system in order to operate the entire plant out of one platform.

Bühler will supply the full technology scope as well as the full automation system. The two teams from Bogasari and Bühler collaborated on the latest process flow sheets to build for Bogasari a plant focused on high yields and low energy consumption to keep up with the booming Indonesian flour milling market.

Ceremony attendees included  Franciskus Welirang, chief executive officer of Bogasari; Calvin Grieder, chairman of Bühler Group; and Dieter Voegtli, global head of operations Bühler Group, as well as the project teams from Bogasari and Bühler.

The ceremony started with a company overview of Bogasari, followed by a project overview given by Dominique Kull from Bühler Asia.

After the signing. Welirang addressed the challenges and also opportunities in the rising Indonesian flour milling market.

With this order for the two new milling lines in Cibitung, Bogasari cements its long-term partnership with Bühler that started with multiple milling lines for the Bogasari plant in Surabaya. Just before the Eit Festival, the latest 750 tpd milling line supplied by Bühler completed start-up at the Surabaya plant.

Welirang, who is also the president of APINDO, the Indonesian flour milling association, said wheat consumption is expected to total 8.5 million tonnes in 2018. By 2020, wheat consumption is expected to increase to 11 million tonnes annually.

He said the main drivers for the positive market lie in the improved infrastructure and positive market condition. He sees the biggest challenges and opportunity for Bogasari in the implementation of new automation as well as in hiring the right people with the right skills for future challenges. In both areas, Bühler said it will support Bogasari as part of its long-term partnership.

Grieder highlighted in his remarks the importance of close collaboration and thanked Bogasari for its trust.

Bühler said it is dedicated to innovation and is looking forward to supporting Bogasari in leading the industry by using the latest automation and milling technology available.
