New grain futures contracts in canola, barley and sorghum were launched recently on the Sydney Futures Exchange in Australia. These contracts are in addition to the exchange's dealings in wheat and wool.

The new contracts were started in response to demand from national and international traders, according to Grant Hinrichsen, commodity marketing manager at the exchange. He said the three new contracts would give the exchange "a grains complex" as distinct from previous emphasis on trading in wheat. "This will provide greater risk management," he indicated.
