Robert S. Satake, chairman and c.e.o. of the Satake Corporation, died November 13, 2000, in Japan. A graduate in chemical engineering at the University of California at Los Angeles, Dr. Satake brought considerable skill and knowledge to Satake Corp., which was created in 1896 by his wife's father. He devoted his entire career to the advancement of grain processing and technology. In 1996, The Institute of Science and Technology at the University of Manchester, England, awarded Dr. Satake an honorary doctorate of engineering. And in April 2000, he received a doctorate of engineering from the University of Tokyo for his research on the high-performance electronic color sorter for rice.
