The Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University (KSU), Manhattan, Kansas, U.S. is currently reviewing applications it received for the position of department head. Fred Fairchild, chairman of the search committee, said several applications were received and that the committee is in the process of evaluating each applicant’s materials.

Once the evaluation process is completed, the committee will submit to the Dean of Agriculture a list of recommended candidates to be invited to the campus for interviews. Fairchild said the 11-member search committee, which is composed of department faculty, staff, students and an outside source, hopes to have a new department head in place by the start of the 2008.

Dr. Richard Hahn has been serving as interim department head since February 2007. Hahn, who served as department head from 1992 to 1996, had been retired but was asked to serve on in interim basis after Virgil Smail resigned from the position in January. The department is the only academic institution worldwide that offers three distinct undergraduate degrees in baking, feed and milling science management.
