KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, U.S. — CII Laboratory Services, Kansas City, recently announced its acquisition of the long-established microbiology laboratory, Biological Services, also of Kansas City.

According to John Fontana, CII’s vice president of technical services, "This acqui-sition brings an extensive expansion to the ISO certified laboratory’s offerings in the microbiological area."

Under the leadership of Dr. Robert Sauvan, Biological Services over the past 30 years has served the food and environmental industries with a particular focus on baking and grain milling. Sauvan has been retained on a consulting basis, and his staff will join CII, relocating to the expanded laboratory facilities at CII headquarters.

"Bringing these additional FDA-approved microbiological services and their current testing load under one roof provides new efficiencies and bundled services that are allowing CII to actually reduce charges in their microbiological testing services," said Gretchen Stewart, CII’s vice president of sales and marketing.

"This acquisition now also uniquely positions CII Laboratory Services to address the biosafety issues facing this industry," she noted. "In this regard, CII is currently designing specific HACCP and biosafety testing protocols for the grain, milling and baking industry."

Other services added by CII this year include web-based access to the exclusive HRW, SRW, and HRS Wheat Crop Quality Survey information provided by CII, a laboratory information management system capable of tracking and charting customer result data, and additional expansion in HPLC and Atomic Absorption testing capabilities.
